I am currently an individual therapist in Portland, Oregon. My specialties include working with adults who are struggling with a variety of issues, ranging from anxiety, insomnia, depression, and "existential angst".
I have a B.A. in psychology from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. My background includes many years in Human Resources, where I focused on employee concerns in the workplace. This experience translates into my private practice, where I am able to help my clients work through related issues, such as work/life balance, finding a meaningful career or life path, or helping clients to learn effective communication skills.
I have also worked in community mental health as a counselor at William Temple House in Portland, where I worked with a diverse client population of adults and adolescents, who were struggling with issues such as, depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship struggles, and social phobia. In addition to my private practice, I work on mental health research studies, with study topics ranging from teen depression and anxiety, to internet-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression.
My Master's training at Pacific University focused on a Cognitive Behavioral Approach to therapy. I use this approach, coupled with my training in Humanistic Therapy at University College Cork, in Ireland, to provide a well-rounded approach to therapy. My goal is to create a trusting atmosphere, where my clients feel comfortable and empowered to make changes in their lives. I seek to create a collaborative atmosphere, where we can work together to form an approach to therapy that is comfortable and effective for my clients.
I have completed the National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE), maintain registration as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, and hold a certification as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) issued by the National Board for Certified Counselors.
